Had a good quiet night alone in the Suffolk Wild Trust carpark at Lackford Lakes one the Bury St. Edmunds to Mildenhall road despite the fact that I wasn't feeling a 100% with a tummy bug :( It was great to be away in our campervan for the first time this year so after getting up at 6:30 and a quick bite we were exploring the 9 lakes and miles of footpaths by 7 !!! :) We had the whole place to ourselves for a long time and spotted loads of different sorts of ducks but sadly no Bittern :( we were joined by a couple og expert birdwatchers in a couple of ther hides with their expensive equipment !! but in the end we saw nearly as many birds as them :) We were out over five hours and sat in all the hides and the highlight was meeting up with Giles the Suffolk Wildlife Ranger who pointed out buzzards and then took us the private way back and we saw a muntjac deer very close :) So the best birds of day were a Snipe,Egyptian Geese,Shover ducks and the lovely Long Tailed Tits :) So this is a great spot and well worth a visit.
Mag sadly lost her Dad over a year ago now and wanted to have a look at his bungalow in Stowmarket on the way home and decided to make detour to Bradfield Woods - another Suffolk Wildlife Trust site :) This is an ancient wood that has been worked for over 800 years and we spent over an hour walking around the paths although wildlife was apart thin on the ground there :( but it wood be a great place to visit again in the spring and autumn :)
After a quick look at the bungalow - nothing much had changed as the developer had only just started we headed home - knackered but happy :)
